AS Roma is Rome main football club. It was founded in 1927 with the name Associazione Sportiva Roma and has always played in the Premier League since then, except for 1951-52 championship. The stadium where it plays at home is Olimpico, whereas the team’s trainings take place in Fulvio Bernardini sport centre in Trigoria, in the south of Rome. The current president of the team is Rosella Sensi, daughter to the late president Franco Sensi. CLUB BADGE AND KITThe club badge portrays the she-wolf of the foundation’s legend and symbol of Rome (the Lupa capitolina) while it breast-feeds Romulus and Remus. The team’s official hymn is sung by the famous Roman singer-songwriter Antonello Venditti. AS Roma‘s main kit is made up of a dark red shirt with yellow edges (that’s why Roma’s footballers are called “giallorossi”, that is “yellow and red”), white shorts and white socks. The second kit is white and the third is black. AWARDSAS Roma has won several awards in its history: 3 Premier Leagues, 9 Coppa Italia, 2 Supercoppe Italiane, 1 Coppa delle fiere, 1 Torneo Anglo-Italiano. Moreover, it placed second in the Premier League as many as 10 times and third as many as 5 times. CHAMPIONSIn its history AS Roma team has boasted several champions like the Brazilian Dino da Costa, leading goal scorer in 1957, then the forward Pietro Manfredini and more recently Paulo Roberto Falcao during 1980s, Roberto Pruzzo, Bruno Conti, Ciccio Graziani e Giuseppe Giannini. Francesco Totti, current team captain, is the icon of AS Roma and boasts the highest number of Premier League matches played in the history of the team. In Rome there is also another team that plays in the Premier League, SS Lazio. The city is therefore divided into two groups of supporters, whose rivalry is very strong and always “exhibited”, by mock banners and, unfortunately, also violent clashes. |
