Rome Gay Pride

Rome has been hosting for some years the colorful Gay Pride, the world’s most famous homosexual parade. On Gay Pride day drag queens, transsexuals, transgenders, ornamental floats and dancers wind through the city in a merry protest.

GAY PRIDE’S HISTORY

The Gay Pride‘s origins date back to the so called Stonewall riots, the violent clashes between policemen and homosexuals that took place in New York in the early morning hours of 28 June 1969. This event has become the symbol of gay liberation movement and has given the green light to the “LGBT pride world day” or Gay pride, which takes place each and every 28 June.

This event is called Gay Pride because it aims at being a landmark for gay community, to show homosexuals how they should live their lives, being aware and proud of their sexual diversity. The Gay Pride day is celebrated all over the world on 28 June with a parade, the Gay Pride Parade. Its symbols are a rainbow flag and a pink triangle.
