In Italy there are more than 90 universities and colleges, half of which are public. In Rome there are three big public universities and a certain number of private ones. Here is a description of Rome’s main three universities. The Most University in Rome:Università di Roma La SapienzaThe La Sapienza is one of the oldest universities in Italy, as it was founded in 1303. It’s the biggest university Università di Roma Tor VergataThe Università di Tor Vergata was founded in 1982 in the district of the same name in Rome. It includes 6 faculties, among which the most prestigious one is the Faculty of Economics. Università di Roma TreThis university is the newest one (1992) and the second for number of students. It includes 8 faculties and 29 departments and boasts a considerable number of undergraduate and postgraduate courses, masters, PhD programmes and specialization schools. Among Rome’s private universities worth mentioning are the LUISS, the Pontificia Università Gregoriana, the Pontificia Università Lateranense, the LUMSA, the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore and the American University of Rome. Erasmus ProgrammeThe Erasmus programme is an exchange programme for EU students who want to study abroad. There are many incoming students in Rome’s universities. These students are awarded a scholarship that covers both accommodation and studies’ expenses.
