Cycling in Rome

Why not visiting Rome by bike? The city has lots of bicycle paths and you can also cycle along the city centre: obviously, beware of the cars. In the last ten years Rome town council has developed dozens of kilometers of bicycle paths, that run parallel to roads or intersect public parks. The bike might turn out to be useful to avoid traffic or just to spend some healthy and relaxing time. Most underground stations in Rome presents cycle racks.

The main cycle routes are nearby the Tiber and the Aniene, such as the path that connects Ponte Risorgimento with Villa Borghese or the long cycling stretches in Villa Pamphilj and in Parco della Caffarella.

The city also offers a bike sharing service: it is not perfectly efficient but it is certainly an interesting solution to take into account, you just have to subscribe at a PIT (information centre) of the city. Furthermore, Trenitalia (the Italian railways) offers a bike+train service for some regional and suburban trains, with the possibility to carry your bike with you on the train by paying a 3.50€ ticket.

The price for hiring a bike is usually 3 € per hour or 10 € for the daily ticket. Here are some useful numbers:
