The Museo di Roma is the permanent exhibition set in the Palazzo Braschi, a wonderful 17th century residence by Cosimo Morelli close to Piazza Navona. The museum aims at showing Roman artistic, historical and socio-cultural exemplars from the medieval era till early 1900, featuring an astonishing number of works of art like paintings, sculptures, photographs, furniture, engravings, frescos and architectural items.
The museum, recently restored, also hosts the Archivio Fotografico Comunale (photo archives) and the Gabinetto Comunale delle Stampe (collection of prints, photographs and negatives). These two exhibitions make a fundamental contribution in tracing back Rome history of graphic arts, thanks to a detailed collection of historical pictures, paintings, ancient books and watercolors.
Worthy of mention is the magnificent entry staircase, with 18 Egyptian red granite columns, and the small chapel, the cappella del Valadier.
