The Galleria Borghese is a 17th century unique Cardinal’s collection, located inside the fabulous Villa Borghese Pinciana, and it has been Italian State property since 1902. Both the villa and the collection exist thanks to the commitment of the rich patron Scipione Borghese (1579-1633), a prominent personality of that time, Cardinal nephew of Pope Paul V. Inside the museum there are precious paintings and sculptures of prominent artists, such as Caravaggio (Young Sick Bacchus, David with the Head of Goliath), Bernini (Apollo and Daphne, The Rape of Proserpina, David, Bust of Paul V), Canova (Paolina Borghese), Rubens (The Pieta), Raphael (The Deposition), Correggio (Danae). Villa Borghese is surrounded by the lush vegetation of its homonymous park, approximately 80 hectares in the heart of Rome.
