Tor Vergata University was inaugurated in 1982 in the borough of the same name in Rome and is the second public university in the city as to date of foundation. It is located inside a vast park in the south-east of the city, between the Grande raccordo Anulare and the Castelli Romani (Rome Castles), and is well connected with the city centre.

Tor Vergata University is considered one of the best universities in Europe, together with La Sapienza, for scientific disciplines, standing out especially for Economics. It has its own official radio station, established in 2006, and a modern PhD school, based on the US model.

Red tape is streamlined thanks to the online administrative office and the free wireless connection available to all students. The structure is also equipped with a sports centre (5-a-side pitch, courts for volleyball, tennis and basket).

THE NUMBERS OF THE UNIVERSITY

Tor Vergata numbers about 44.000 enrolled students (2009), more than 1.400 professors (researchers included) and almost 1.000 technicians. It has 6 faculties with 122 (undergraduate and postgraduate) degree courses, 170 advanced courses (training courses, 1st and 2nd level masters), 54 specialization schools and 78 PhD courses.

Every year the university offers about 1.000 internships and provides students with the possibility to be awarded scholarships like Leonardo and Erasmus projects. To get an even more complete idea of the importance of this university just consider that its campus covers 600 hectares and includes almost 500 labs, 27 departments and 6 libraries.

THE FACULTIES

The most prestigious faculty, recognized as such by the Italian Ministry too, is Economics. However, worthy of mention are also Medicine and Surgery, then Law, Engineering, Humanities and Philosophy and Mathematics, Physics and Natural Sciences.
