As we’ve just said, Rome historical centre is divided into areas/boroughs called rioni; moreover, at the beginning of the 20th century, Rome newly-urbanized territories were also divided into similar areas/boroughs, whose name is quartieri (the exact correspondence of borough in Italian). There are 35 quartieri in Rome and 3 of them are located beside the coast and therefore called quartieri marini (sea boroughs). The 35 quartieri surround the historical centre and are situated inside the Grande Raccordo Anulare. |
