As it happens in all the big European capitals, also Rome is subdivided into different area; more precisely it has its rioni and its quartieri. The rioni date back to the Medieval period and are the 22 areas into which the city centre is divided. Whereas, the quartieri are 35 and were set up at the beginning of the 20th century, splitting up the new urban area created inside the Grande Raccordo Anulare. |
